The Cole Frederking Legacy Foundation

Why We Started

Giving Back

The Cole Frederking Legacy Foundation was created to carry out Cole’s wish to make a lasting impact after his passing. In the summer of 2024, knowing his time was limited, on his own, Cole began planning how he could give back. He donated his tumors to science in the hope of advancing research, and he wanted to support the community he loved deeply—StageFlight Theatre program and his high school.

When Cole needed strength, it was the theatre and school community that stood by him. In return, he was determined to give back to the people and places that meant so much to him. The Foundation exists to fulfill Cole’s vision and to honor the brave, determined, and selfless person he was.

About Cole

Who was Cole Frederking?

Cole Frederking was a joyful, bright, and determined young man, who passed away at the age of 16 from cancer. A naturally curious learner, he was part of the gifted and talented program and found meaning in all forms of learning and education. From an early age, he was a gifted athlete, excelling in baseball, soccer, track, flag football, and golf.

After being diagnosed with cancer, Cole reinvented himself. With the same drive he brought to sports, he turned his focus to acting—something he had always enjoyed but hadn’t had time to pursue. Through StageFlight Theatre, he fully embraced this new passion. Acting, theatre, and film became a source of joy and purpose, and the theatre community welcomed him with open arms.

Cole attended Mountain Vista High School from 2022 to 2024. During middle school and high school, he courageously battled Wilms’ Tumor, a rare and aggressive form of kidney cancer. Despite undergoing intense chemotherapy and radiation, he maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA every semester and earned membership in the National Honor Society. He was also deeply involved in StageFlight Theatre, contributing both as an actor and behind the scenes in technical production and film.

Cole’s journey was marked by unwavering positivity, strength, and hope. His resilience in the face of unimaginable challenges continues to inspire everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Board of Directors

Grateful to our Committed Team

The Foundation was established in 2024. It’s Founding Board of Directors includes Cole’s parents and local leaders who were touched by his presence.

Ryan Frederking

CHAIR
ryan@colefrederking.org
Ryan is inspired to carry on the legacy of his son, Cole Frederking, who is the inspiration behind our Foundation. Cole was one of those rare individuals who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was caring, intelligent, witty, kind, and driven—someone who genuinely wanted to make a difference in the world. Tragically, Cole’s journey was cut short at just 16 years old.

As we struggled to make sense of the loss, we realized that the best way to honor his memory was to give back to others in his name. Cole’s spirit lives on in the many people he touched with his perseverance and positive outlook. He asked us to find a way to give back to others who embody the same values he did, to support the communities that supported him, and to ensure that he would not be forgotten.

We are committed to fulfilling those wishes and carrying forward his legacy.

Kim Frederking

VICE CHAIR
kim@colefrederking.org
Kim, Cole’s mom, watched her previously vibrant and healthy son, bravely battle stage IV cancer over the course of four years. Despite the challenges, he remained positive and never gave up hope. In his final days, Cole expressed a heartfelt wish—to give back to the theatre department, his high school, and, most importantly, to support other kids in need.

Kim is on a mission to honor her son by carrying out his wishes and preserving the incredible spirit of who he was. Kim has a B.A. in Communication with a minor in Business from Carroll University. A seasoned advertising professional, fitness instructor, ballet teacher, and fierce advocate for children—especially those facing hardship—Kim wears many hats. But the most meaningful title she will ever hold for both her children, is simply: mom.
